A Second Year and Counting: Kaden’s Hands-On Internship in Manhattan, KS

When an intern chooses to spend a second year with a company, it speaks volumes about the opportunities for growth and real-world experience available. For Kaden, a second-year Assistant Project Management Intern at Interstates’ Manhattan, KS office, the decision to return was inspired by that exact reason.

“What encouraged me to return was the learning opportunities and the site visit opportunities,” Kaden shared when asked why he returned for another summer. His favorite memory so far has been visiting the Hastings, Nebraska site during a key client shutdown and being able to help with the project. That kind of experience demonstrates the level of trust and responsibility given to interns—offering them a direct role in the work that matters.

When asked what sets Interstates apart, Kaden pointed to the people and the company's core values. The collaborative environment and culture of support are stand-out qualities noticed by many interns. These values are reflected in how teams work together and how interns are welcomed into real project teams from day one. Although internships are a great asset to a growing resume, they should also be a chance for individuals to work alongside people who care, learn by doing, and see how company values can be put into action every day.

Interstates' internship program is designed to provide hands-on experience and personal growth—not just busy work, but meaningful tasks and opportunities to learn. More about the structure, growth opportunities, and testimonials from other interns can be found on the Interstates internship page.

Kaden's story is one example of how ongoing learning, mentorship, and company culture can shape a truly valuable internship experience.
