The Impact of Everyday Dependability

Severe storms rolled through our area several months ago, bringing significant wind and rain. Some of our team members were without power for many hours, and some experienced flooded basements when sump pumps failed. I was reminded of how quickly we take things like the power grid for granted. You don't even think about it when it's reliable, but when it falters, everything stops. Dependability is the quiet force that keeps everything moving.

Dependability is one of our core values at Interstates. We often think of it in the context of big, defining moments, like during a crisis. But I've come to believe dependability is more about what we do in the small, everyday moments. It's showing up when you said you would, listening when you'd rather move on, or taking the time to check in—even when your own plate is full. These acts may seem minor, but they're the ones people remember.

Think about the people you trust most. Chances are, it's not because they had the right answers; it's because they were consistent and kept showing up. When people do what they say and honor their commitments, it has a calming effect on those around them. You know you can count on them in a world that is often chaotic and moving quickly. Today, I encourage you to lead in a way that reminds others they can count on you—not just in the big moments, but in all the little ones in between.
