Hy-Vee Distribution Plant Project

Interstates provided electrical construction services for the Hy-Vee project in Ankeny, IA. The 188,000-square-foot commissary facility was built adjacent to its Perishable Distributors of Iowa’s warehouse. This project utilized design support and our industry experience to help value engineer the electrical installation and provide a more clear view of the electrical budget.

Key Scope Components

  • The team installed cable tray and power panel skids in the interstitial space for distributing power loads throughout the building in place of running conduit from the electric room, which provided the client with future flexibility. This also allowed us to install all of the cable tray early on in the project and helped us establish a separate work zone once the interstitial ceiling was in place.
  • The project team’s desire to be lean and agile aligned well with our systems and technology. This strategy, coupled with our use of Intertrack, visual whiteboard scheduling, BIM modeling & manufacturing, and SmartUse, kept the project on schedule and made the installation process more transparent.
  • By providing a window for client engagement throughout the project on material selection and the means and method for the installation, a gateway was established for the client to gain more significant benefits from the final installation.
