Donald Van Raalte, Software Development Manager, at Interstates, was recently selected as a 2020 Engineering Leader Under 40 by Control Engineering and Plant Engineering. The program recognizes professionals under the age of 40 who have made a significant and successful impact on their companies through controls engineering or plant engineering professions.
A graduate of Dordt College, husband, and father of five, Van Raalte has been a leader with Interstates’ Software Development group for nine years. From Software Developer to Lead Software Developer to Software Development Manager, Van Raalte has fostered efficiency and increased client involvement over his career. He played a key role in Interstates’ transition to agile development methodology and currently leads 43 team members, overseeing standards, training, and development. “I’ve had the opportunity to lead several teams of software engineers as they build solutions for different projects. Seeing your team come together on how to meet a customer’s needs by combining technology with their collective skills and expertise is very rewarding,” says Van Raalte.
When not in the office, Van Raalte stays busy with family activities, gardening, and developing software on single-board computers to automate household functions for fun. When asked about being recognized as a leader among his peers, Van Raalte says, “There are many great leaders in engineering fields that I’ve had the pleasure to work with, so it is a true honor to be recognized in this way.”
Interstates is proud of Van Raalte’s accomplishments and the dedication to innovation and passion for his job that he demonstrates daily. For more information about the 2020 Engineering Leaders Under 40, click here.
