Our team celebrated on March 16 with other contractors at the Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction Awards Banquet in San Antonio, TX. We're proud to receive two of the highest level awards from ABC, the National Safety Excellence Pinnacle award and the National Excellence in Construction Eagle award.
National Safety Excellence Pinnacle Award
The National Safety Excellence award recognizes construction companies committed to building a strong safety culture within their organization. The Pinnacle award is the highest level of honor for safety and awarded to a select group of ABC member companies. Overall, we are one of 37 companies to receive a National Safety Excellence award. We are proud of our craft leaders and teams that helped us achieve this honor for the third year in a row.
"Creating a work culture that focuses on safety and total human health is a top priority of ABC," said 2022 National Chair of the ABC Board of Directors Stephanie Schmidt, president, Poole Anderson Construction, State College, Pennsylvania. "Interstates not only represent(s) some of ABC's top performers but also demonstrate(s) the difference it makes when implementing the foundations of and daily conditions for world-class safety."
The winners of this award must achieve Diamond, Platinum, and Gold status in ABC's STEP safety management system in 2021. Judges selected contractors based on the following scores: self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable incident rates, leading indicator use, process and program innovations, and video interviews conducted by members of ABC's National Safety and Health Committee.
Claudia Ancona, Safety Manager at Interstates, noted a few things in store for safety at Interstates, "We recently implemented a mentoring program for new craft team members. It's our way to welcome them and show them how to live out our core values each day on-site. We also look forward to new systems, metrics, and trainings for our team members. It's exciting to see all the new ways our safety culture is growing."
National Excellence in Construction Eagle Award
The National Excellence in Construction (EIC) awards honor and celebrate the best in merit shop construction. These projects from 2021 are deemed exceptional projects and evaluated on the project's complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety, and cost. This award recognizes all team members on the project, including the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer.
Our project in Arkansas City, KS, with Creekstone Farms Premium Beef, received the Eagle award in the Specialty Contractor Electrical: Industrial $2-10 Million category. Landon Ragon, Site Project Manager for Interstates, tells us what stood out to him on the project. "The crew's teamwork, cohesion, innovation, and willingness to help each other out led to a top-notch project. It was a positive atmosphere to the end."
"For 32 years, ABC has honored award-winning construction projects like Creekstone because the work by the team at Interstates exemplifies the best of the best in construction," said Schmidt. "This exemplary construction project was built safely and on time. It is an honor to congratulate Interstates for their hard work and showcase of construction excellence."
We provided electrical construction, power and controls engineering, network design, instrumentation, controls design, and control panels for this 41,000 square foot distribution center warehouse. We demonstrated value-adding innovation and resourcefulness to help reach the client's goal to double their production and automate the plant's distribution process.
Scott Koll, Project Executive at Interstates, shares his excitement about the project, "This project came together so well, but the ultimate reward is that no one was injured. Our field staff were on the front lines of this project and did a great job." Ragon adds, "This project makes me proud to be a part of the Interstates team."
