Control Systems Professionals Gather for the ICSJWG 2017 Spring Meeting

Industrial Controls Systems Joint Working Group (ICSJWG)

Last week, the 5th floor of the Loews Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota was filled with individuals involved in cyber security. The 2017 Spring Industrial Controls Systems Joint Working Group Meeting provided a forum for these control systems professionals to network and discuss cyber security for plants, utilities, and factories. I attended the meeting and had the opportunity to engage with my peers, meet industry leaders, and learn more about the latest innovations in security.

The Challenges of Creating Cyber Security Teams

The meeting consisted of three days of discussions, keynote speakers, demonstrations, presentations, and panels. Attendees had the chance to learn about technical solutions to industry needs, methods to create a cyber-savvy workforce, and ideas on future security trends and concerns. During the meeting, I presented on the challenges of creating effective cyber security teams. My presentation outlined general observations of cyber security groups within companies and the gaps which are often present. Additionally, I discussed opportunities for improvement and made recommendations on how to make the greatest impact within a business. I was honored to have the opportunity to speak at the meeting and hope the information I provided will be helpful to others in the field of cyber security.
