What is Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway in which workers can obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a transferable credential. These programs enable job creators to develop and train their future workforce while offering career seekers an affordable path to secure high-paying jobs. In short, it gives workers the ability to earn while they learn.

How is Apprenticeship different from other types of education/training?

  • Apprentices are paid by their employers during training.
  • Apprenticeship programs provide on-the-job learning and job-related classroom training.
  • On-the-job learning is conducted in a work setting under the direction of mentors.
  • Training results in an industry-recognized and portable credential.

Why an Apprenticeship with Interstates?

The apprenticeship program at Interstates has a proven track record of success. Since starting in 2002 with approximately 60 individuals, there are close to 150 people in the program in Sioux Center and another 45 people in Fort Collins, Colorado. Over the duration of the program, 348 people have completed all requirements and have gotten their Department of Labor (DL) Certificate. This allows them to test for their Journeyman License in Iowa and several other states. Dedicated to professional training, there are 4 full-time trainers based out of different locations. They focus on providing training for apprentices as well as those working on obtaining their Journeyman License.

Thank you for your interest in all that an apprenticeship has to offer. We hope to see you at our event!
